Reverend R. Ward HolderNewton Presbyterian Church has been led by their supply preacher, the Rev. R. Ward Holder, since January of 2017. Ward and his wife Susan are dedicated to the community at NPC.
R. Ward Holder is professor of theology at Saint Anselm College and a minister member of the Presbytery of Boston. Educated at Cornell College, Princeton Theological Seminary, and Boston College, he has served the church both as a pastor and as a theologian. He has written and edited several books, concentrating upon the Reformation, the interpretation of scripture, and political theology. Among those are Calvin and the Grounding of Interpretation: Calvin’s First Commentaries; A Companion to Paul in the Reformation; Crisis and Renewal:The Era of the Reformations; and The Irony of Barack Obama: Barack Obama, Reinhold Niebuhr, and the Problem of Christian Statecraft. He has served in many roles in the presbytery, including service on Committee on Ministry, Nominating Committee, Presbytery Council, Stewardship and Budget Committee, the Permanent Judicial Commission, and moderator of presbytery. He has served as pulpit supply of the Newton Presbyterian Church since January, 2017. He is married to Susan, a long time member of Newton Presbyterian Church, and together they are the proud parents of five children. |
